The Ellis Jr. High school girls basketball team played Plainville Nov. 29th for the second time in the same week for the first round of the MCEL tournament.  Ellis continued to do well against Plainville although the Cardinals fought hard throughout the game.  Ellis led at the half 18 to 6 and eventually won the game 27 to 9 which moves Ellis onto the second round in the MCEL tournament.

Leading scorer for Ellis was Emily Eck with 17 points.  Hannah Schiel and Kylee Pfeifer each had four points and Emily James had two.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was James with seven followed by MaKenna Kohl with five and Eck with four.  Schiel had two boards and Eberle, Pfeifer and Harlie Bittel each had one rebound.  Ellis out-rebounded Plainville 21 to 16.

Coach Sheryl Butler commented, “I have to give a lot of credit to Plainville for working hard the entire game after just having lost to us by quite a bit two days before.  Even though the score was somewhat spread out – it didn’t ‘feel’ as spread.  We were needing to work on some of our weaknesses to prepare for the games forward – which we did.  Plus we were able to get some different people in different combinations into the game to prepare for down the road also.”
