Ellis JH Girls Compete Strong at Meets

Last week the JH Lady Railroaders traveled for track to Hill City on Monday and then to Trego on Thursday. The Eighth grade girls placed first at Hill City and second at Trego while the seventh grade team placed third at each meet.

Eighth graders, Emily Eck, Myah McCoy, Haley Cranwell, Madi Russell & Makenna Kohl showed their strength on the track taking 2 out of the 3 top medals in running events 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M and 1600M. and in the field with long and triple jump. Hannah Schiel has dominated the field in javelin, shot, discus & triple jump. Coach Edmonds stated, “These girls are competitive, but what they model at practice, their strong work-out ethic, shows that hard work equals success. They have worked hard for every medal they have earned.”

Kylee Pfeifer, seventh grader, finished strong at both meets taking home gold medals in the 100M and 200M, and running the last leg of the 4x100 relay along with team members Maci Eberle, Kaydawn Haag and Emily James. Kaydawn Haag also brought home medals in the triple jump, javelin and100 M. hurdles.

Coach Edmonds stated, “At the Hill City and Trego meets besides tough competition, the athletes also had to battle the cold strong winds. We had to compete with the wind and cold fighting against us. I am very proud of the girls bringing home many new personal records. Emily Eck improved her 400 M. run with a time of 62.81 at Hill City. Her previous record this season was 63.45.

This week the junior high will compete twice. Tuesday the teams will attend the Plainville Invitational and then on Friday Ellis will host their own meet starting at 3:00 p.m. Come out and support the Railroaders!
