The Junior High Lady Railers volleyball team took on the Phillipsburg Panthers on Thursday, September 19th, here at home.  The night started out a little rocky for the B team as they played a very close first set, but came up short 23-25.  The 2nd match saw the lady Railers lose 15-25, it just wasn’t the B-team’s best night of volleyball.  Leading the team in serving was Callie Priest, serving 3 aces and 9 good serves, missing zero.  Leading passer was Addison Kohl with 10 good passes and 1 dig.  Brooke Starns had 1 kill and Jennifer Cunningham and Natalee North each had 1 good spike.  The B-team girls’ record is now 2-1.
The C-team took the floor and continued their winning ways, beat Phillipsburg in straight sets 25-22 & 25-11.  Continuing to lead the girls in serving was Chloe Adkins with 6 ace serves and 11 good serves.  Several girls had a great night of passing with Alyssa Rome leading with 14 good passes, Chloe Adkins with 12, and Makenzie Kohlrus with 11.  The girls continue to work to play as a team and have positive attitudes with one another.  The C-tem girls are 3-0 on the season.
The A-team finished out the night in a big way, taking down Phillipsburg in straight sets 25-18 and 25-14.  This is the 1st time in coach Berens’s 6 seasons of coaching junior high volleyball that the varsity girls beat the panthers.  It was an amazing night with the girls playing awesome together.  Leading in serving was Emily James with 2 ace serves and 12 good serves, adding 4 ace serves was Kaydawn Haag.  Kylee Pfeifer had 25 good sets and the girls took advantage of her setting.  Emily had 4 kills and 4 good spikes, Kaydawn had 5 good hits with 1 kill, and Taylor Seibel had 2 kills and 4 good hits.  Braelyn Born and Jadyn Starns both had 4 good hits as well, but no kills.  Braelyn led the team in tip kills with 4, she did a great job of finding the hole and placing the ball.  Leading passer was Kaydawn with 12.  Leading in digs was Emily with 5.  It was so fun to watch these girls play, their next competition is September 28th in Grinnell.  The A-team is now 2-1 on the season.
