EJH Girls Basketball Hosts Smith Center

The Smith Center Lady Redmen came to Ellis on Nov. 12th and came away the winner in the varsity game and lost the J.V. game.In the varsity game, Smith Center came in very strong with a strong full-court press that was maintained throughout the game until the middle of the 4th quarter.  Ellis battled through the press the majority of the time but then ended up giving the ball away numerous times on Ellis’ end of the court to turnovers.  Ellis out-rebounded Smith Center 45 to 30, mostly defensive rebounds, but then would lose the ball in trying to get a score on Ellis’ end.  The final score was Smith Center 50 to Ellis 15.Coach Sheryl Butler said, “Our handling the ball with high pressure is something that we have to continue to work at.  When we do break through a press like Smith Center’s, we seem to panic and then throw the ball away through either bad passes or traveling.  To Smith Center’s credit, they have a good team that play well together.”Leading scorers for Ellis was Kylee Pfeifer with 11 points.  Isabella Eck and Braelyn Born each had two points.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Natalee North with 11, followed by Kaydawn Haag with eight, Born with seven, Eck and Pfeifer each with six, Macy Eberle with five and Emily James with two.In the junior varsity game, the contest was a lot closer throughout the game and Ellis came out on top 18 to 10.  Ellis led throughout the game.Leading scorer for Ellis was North with seven points followed by KayCee Cranwell with six.  Alyssa Rome had four points and Addison Kohl had one.  Leading rebounders for Ellis was shared by Rome, North and Sydney Redetzke all with six boards each.  Kohl had four rebounds, Cranwell had three, Maleah Vine, Jennifer Cunningham and Brooke Starns each had two boards and Brace Brull had one.
