Ellis Jr. High girls basketball team played the Hill City Ringnecks on Tuesday Nov 19,2019.

Ellis sent the Ringnecks back home without a win as Ellis girls won both the J.V. and the varsity contests.

In the varsity game, Ellis was a little sluggish in the beginning. The score was tied at the half 10 to 10. The Lady Railers began to pull away in the second half and held tight for the win, winning 29 to 20.

Coach Sheryl Butler said, “We came out in the first half a little flat, seemed like we couldn’t get anything to go in. Our defense in the second half helped push us back where we needed to be and the girls ran our offense very well in that second half. I told the girls after the game that this game was more proof that even when your shooting is off, a good defense can stay solid.”

Leading scorers for Ellis was Kylee Pfeifer with eight points, Macy Eberle followed with six. Kaydawn Haag and Isabella Eck each had four points, Braelyn Born had three points and Emily James and Natalee North each had two. Leading rebounder was Haag with 15 rebounds. Pfeifer had eight boards, James and North each had six, Born and Eberle each had five and Eck had four. Ellis had a total of 49 rebounds to Hill City’s 24.

In the junior varsity game, the score was also tied 10 to 10 at the half. Ellis again pulled out ahead in the second half and closed the deal, winning 22 to 14.

Leading scorer for Ellis was North with 13 points. Addison Kohl had five points and Jennifer Cunningham and Kaycee Cranwell each had two points. Leading rebounders for Ellis was Kohl and North each having five boards a piece. Maleah Vine had four boards and Alyssa Rome, Cunningham and Sydney Redtzke each had three. Brooke Starns contributed two rebounds and Cranwell had one.
